Succeed At Losing Weight By Understanding Why You Eat

Losing weight means you have to change the way you approach food. The problem with most diets is they don't take into account the different relationships people may have with food.

Crazy About Cooking

Do you love to cook? Would you choose just about any show on the Food Network over shows like American Idol? Cooking plays a very important role in many people's lives. Most people who has the love for cooking doesn't do it for themselves, but they love to share and make people eat their creation.

Cooking can be a very rewarding passion. The problem with cooking is it doesn't necessarily mean you're whipping up healthy foods. There are plenty of popular food personalities who are promoting foods that taste delicious but aren't going to help you lose weight.

Another problem when you cook is it can ruin your perception of portions. You might eat a delicious plate of casserole which is not all bad and unhealthy. But if you eat two, three or even four servings of it at a time, you're going to pack on way more calories than you need.

The Food Tourist

Do you love to travel? Is a big part of your traveling experience trying all sorts of new foods? Food is truly one experience that will bring you to different cultures. The issue is eating to expand your horizons doesn't mean you're taking in any less calories.

Most people see food as a great adventure. You may make it a point to seek out new food even when you're not away on a trip. This approach to eating can be exciting and satisfying. The challenge for you is balancing your enthusiasm for food with the need not to pack on the pounds.

Diets Fail, Understanding Works

A passion for cooking and a desire to experience new foods are two common personalities that demonstrate why popular diets don't work. Someone who loves to cook is not going to stick to eating portion controlled meals that are simply heated up in the microwave. And to the person who looks for a different kind of food won't be excited if he/she will just follow a food schedule routine.

What can help you lose weight is understanding how you view food. If you love to cook, your first challenge is learning how to control the portions you eat. Your other challenge is applying your talents to finding ways to prepare food that's even healthier.

If you love to try new foods, your main challenge is teaching yourself how to experience new tastes without pigging out. Just because you want to try something new doesn't mean you need to eat an entire bowl or plate of it.
